Prize Catch: Hawaii’s Cedric Byrd

What is it with Cedric Byrd and season openers? Last season, the 5-9, 175-lb. receiver from Los Angeles made his Rainbow Warrior debut in spectacular fashion, snaring 181 receiving yards (the most ever for a UH player in his debut). This year, in Hawaii’s thrilling 45-38 win over Arizona, Byrd grabbed 15 passes for 224 yards and 4 TDs.

ESPN Honolulu sat down with the gifted slotback and asked him about his role on the team, the uniqueness of Hawaii’s run-and-shoot-offense, and his journey from junior college ball (he had no scholarship offers coming out of high school) to stardom in Manoa. Enjoy our exclusive nterview!
