Coming Attractions: Manel Ayol

Want something to look forward to once the world returns to some semblance of normalcy? Manel Ayol, a 6-7 forward out of Western Wyoming College, has announced that he will play for the University of Hawaii men’s basketball team.

“Happy to say that I will be continuing my academic and basketball career at Hawai‘i, I want to thank god for giving me the opportunity to do what I love!!!” Ayol posted on his Twitter Page.

Ayol averaged 16.3 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Mustangs this past season and was named the Region IX Player of the Year. Western Wyoming was 30-4 or the year and qualified for the 16-team NJCAA national tournament (canceled due to Covid-19). He also shot 51.6 percent from the field, 39.3 percent from behind the arc and 80.3 percent at the charity stripe.

Ayol is good friends with current Rainbow Warrior Junior Madut, who redshirted this past season. Like Madut, Ayol is originally from South Sudan and developed his game in Australia.

The NCAA’s spring signing day is scheduled for April 15, although that could change because of the uncertainty surrounding the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Here is a highlights video of Ayol in action:
