Rivals Fantasy Football Show Report: Aug. 7

Heath Cummings, Senior Fantasy Sports Writer for CBS Sports, was Gary Dickman’s special guest today on the Rivals Fantasy Football Show. Cummings addressed a number of caller questions, including:

  • He’s not very worried about a potential holdout by Ezekiel Elliott. Cummings says that the Cowboys running back will have to play at some point this season. (If he holds out all year, he’ll lose a year of accrued service – meaning Dallas will still have his rights for at least three more seasons. Cummings added that he is concerned enough that he dropped Elliott from his No. 1 overall fantasy prospect to No. 4.
  • Cummings offered a word of advice for Fantasy players looking to draft Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes in the first two or three rounds: Yes, Mahomes did pass for more than 5,000 yard and 50 TDs. But no one has had those stats in back-to-back seasons. Cummings says he would be “comfortable” taking Mahomes in the sixth round.
  • Cummings said that the Colts’ Eric Ebron would be worthy of an 8th– or 9th-round selection. No higher than that. He also projects the Giants’ Evan Engram has Fantasy Football’s No. 4 TE this season. He expects Engram to have at least 100 “targets” in 2019.
  • Chris Godwin seems to be everybody’s favorite “breakout” receiver candidate this season. Cummings expects the third-year player to be Tampa Bay’s No. 2 receiver, right behind Mike Evans. His other breakout candidates at the position are Dede Westbrook of Jacksonville and Christian Kirk of Arizona.
  • Cummings said that Miles Sanders is “clearly” the best running back on the Philadelphia Eagles and should be the No. 1 back on the team. But he is not sure whether the Eagles will still use a committee approach at the position.
