Suspended to cancelled

The Big West Board of Directors today moved from indefinitely suspending to canceling all spring conference and non-conference competition and championship events for the 2020 season, which means that all University of Hawai’i spring sports have been cancelled. This follows the conference’s previous announcement yesterday of cancelling only 2020 spring championships due to coronavirus concerns.

University of Hawai’i sports affected: baseball beach volleyball, cheerleading, men’s & women’s golf, men’s & women’s basketball, sailing, softball, men’s & women’s swimming/diving, men’s & women’s tennis, track and field, men’s volleyball, waterpolo.

via Kyle Bonagura (ESPN): In response to the cancellation of collegiate spring sports due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NCAA Division I Council Committee has recommended that eligibility relief be provided to all student-athletes who participate in spring sports.

“Details of eligibility relief will be finalized at a later time,” the NCAA said in a statement. “Additional issues with NCAA rules must be addressed, and appropriate governance bodies will work through those in the coming days and week.” READ MORE
