Face Masks: how to make and where to buy

On Thursday, Honolulu mayor Kirk Caldwell asked all O’ahu residents to begin wearing a cloth mask every time they go out to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The mayor stressed that this is to prevent an individual, especially those who may be asymptomatic, from spreading the coronavirus to others when out in public. However, people should not panic and buy N95 or surgical masks as these should still be left for healthcare professionals and first responders.

Face coverings made of fabric, public health experts note, aren’t intended to protect wearers from getting sick, but rather, to prevent them from spreading the virus to others. (via NBC News)

Here is a list of places you can buy a cloth mask and videos that will guide you through making your own:

Jams World Honolulu offers face masks with disposable filter inserts. $15.99 for a face mask and insert and $7.99 for a set of 2 inserts (Made of 5-Layer Activated Carbon Filter, Non-Woven + Melt-Blown Cotton + Activated Carbon). SHOP HERE.

There are multiple local small businesses that are also making and selling masks:
