In 2012, after a dominant 16-season run in the Western Athletic Conference, the Rainbow Wahine played their first Big West Conference match since 1995. It was nearly a rude welcome back for 7th ranked UH on the road at Cal State Northridge. Down in the match two separate times in a rare Wednesday match, a double block by Kaela Goodman and Kalei Adolpho gave UH Set 4 25-17 to force the winner take all 5th. A good start for Hawai`i, leads of 3-0 and 5-2, but it was the Matadors who led at the side switch, 8-7. Points went back and forth until Northridge served for the match at 14-12. Hitting error, 14-13. A Jade Vorster kill made it 14-all and they’d play on. UH had match points at 15-14, 16-15 and 17-16…couldn’t covert. Ashley Kastl’s kill made it 18-17 and the Bows won 19-17 on a Northridge hitting error. The Bows got 18 kills and 11 digs from Jane Croson, while Emily Hartong added 16 kills, 9 digs and was in on 6 blocks. UH hit just .165 but held the Matadors to .132. Libero Ali Longo led UH with 12 digs and had 5 service aces as UH would later end the roadtrip with two more conference road wins.
