The Numbers Game

By Lance Tominaga, ESPN Honolulu Web Editor.

We’re calling this game, “Three’s Company.” The challenge here is to pick a professional or college sports team, and then list three all-time great players from that team whose jersey numbers run consecutively. Our thumbnail pic, for example, features New York Yankees legends Derek Jeter (#2), Babe Ruth (#3) and Lou Gehrig (#4). Here are a couple of other examples:

L.A. LAKERS: Magic Johnson (#32), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (#33) and Shaquille O’Neal (#34).

HAWAII FOOTBALL: Cole McDonald (#13), Timmy Chang (#14) and Colt Brennan (#15).

Can you come up with any other all-time trios? Think of your favorite NFL team, another MLB franchise or maybe even your old high school. I can think of trios from Rainbow Wahine volleyball, UCLA basketball, the Boston Celtics, etc. I’ll let you try to figure out the players I’m thinking of.

If you can think of another great trio, e-mail me at [email protected]

We’ll choose the best entry, and award the winner a $25 gift card to Big City Diner. The entry deadline is Saturday (March 6) at noon HST. You must be a Hawaii resident and at least 18 years of age. Multiple entries are welcome!
