Remembering 1,000

By Lance Tominaga, ESPN Honolulu Web Editor.

Today, let’s turn back the clock to relive one of the most special moments in University of Hawaii women’s volleyball history: legendary Rainbow Wahine head coach Dave Shoji’s 1,000th career win. It happened on Oct. 18, 2009, and Hawaii defeated a game but outgunned New Mexico State team, 25-13, 22-25, 25-21, 25-8 in front of a packed house at Stan Sheriff Center. Kanani Danielson and Aneli Cubi-Otineru led the Rainbow Wahine attack with 15 kills apiece, and Liz Ka‘aihue had a season-high 25 digs. Brittany Hewitt’s emphatic block was the final point of the match, and Shoji became just the second coach in NCAA volleyball history to reach 1,000 victories.

Below are videos of the match’s final moments plus the post-match ceremonies for Coach Shoji. Enjoy!
