When 3×3 basketball makes it Olympics debut this month at the Tokyo Games, one of the competitors to watch will be Japan’s Mai Yamamoto. The 21-year-old guard from Hiroshima caught the attention of the hoops world in 2019, when she led Japan to the gold medal in the FIBA 3×3 Under-23 World Cup in China. It was Japan’s first-ever world championship in basketball, and Yamamoto was the tournament’s MVP.
