Colt by the Numbers

By Lance Tominaga, ESPN Honolulu Web Editor.

There’s that old saying in sports: Numbers only tell part of the story. Well, in the case of Colt Brennan, that “part of the story” could fill up entire chapters. Brennan broke or tied no fewer than 31 NCAA records during his three-year career as a University of Hawaii QB. Here are just a few of the impressive statistics that the 2007 Heisman Trophy finalist put up as a Rainbow Warrior:

♦ In 2006, as a junior, Brennan set a new NCAA FBS mark for most passing TDs in a single season, with 58. That record was broken by LSU’s Joe Burrow in 2019.

♦ Brennan’s career completion percentage (70.4%) remains tops in FBS history.

♦ His 20 games of 400+ passing yards is also an FBS record, a mark he shares with Graham Harrell of Texas Tech.

♦ Brennan and seven other FBS QBs (including Timmy Chang) are tied for most seasons with 4,000+ passing yards, with three apiece.

♦ At UH, Brennan is second only to Timmy Chang in career passing yards (14,193) and total offense (14,740). Brennan played in 15 fewer games than Chang.

♦ Brennan tops all Hawaii QBs in passing yards per game for a career. He put up 373.5 passing yards per game.

♦ Among UH QBs, Brennan still has the career record for most games of 500+ passing yards, with four.

♦ Brennan remains the UH career leader in TD passes with 131. Chang is a distant second, with 117.

♦ He still holds the school single-season record for passing yards, with 5,549 – a feat he accomplished in 2006.

♦ Brennan also has the UH single-season passing marks for yards per game (496.4), 300+ games (13), 400+ games (9) and total completions (406). He set those records in his breakout 2006 season.
