Sadly, COVID-19 is once again impacting our the world as much as Covid-19. Thanks largely to the spread of the omicron variant, college bowl games have been canceled (including the EasyPost Hawaii Bowl), college hoops games have been canceled, NBA games have been postponed and even crucial NFL contests have had to be reshuffled.

Still, it wasn’t the first time that a major sports championship was halted because of a virus. In 1919, the deciding game of the Stanley Cup between the Montreal Canadians and Seattle Metropolitans was called off due to an outbreak of the Spanish Flu. Montreal defensiveman Joe Hall died as a result of the illness just four days after the game’s cancellation.
