With the University of Hawaii football head coaching position being the hot-button topic in local sports right now, we thought we’d test your knowledge on some of the program’s previous coaches. This little Pop Quiz is about Hawaii’s head football coaches during the Division I era (Larry Price, Dick Tomey, Bob Wagner, Fred von Appen, June Jones, Greg McMackin, Norm Chow, Nick Rolovich and Todd Graham). ANSWERS:

  1. On Sept. 5, 1987, Hawaii shut out Cal State Fullerton, 44-0, in Bob Wagner’s first game as UH head coach.
  2. Dick Tomey (1986), Fred von Appen (1998) and Nick Rolovich (2016).
  3. On Nov. 9, 1981, under Dick Tomey, Hawaii earned the program’s first-ever national ranking (No. 18 AP, No. 16 UPI).
  4. June Jones (.634).
  5. Norm Chow’s Hawaii teams played No. 1 USC in 2012 and No. 1 Ohio State in 2015.
  6. Hugh Yoshida hired both coaches.
  7. Greg McMackin and the Rainbow Warriors fell to the Gators, 56-10, in the 2008 season opener.
  8. Todd Graham previously served as the head coach at Rice, Tulsa, Pittsburgh and Arizona State.
  9. Bob Wagner led Hawaii to victories over BYU in 1989, 1990 and 1992.
