The Rainbow Wahine basketball team trailed by 16 points late in the third quarter against UC San Diego and came back to tie the game with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Tied, 60-60, UCSD’s Julia Macabuhay gave the Tritons a two-point lead on a jumper with less than two seconds left on the clock. The Wahine were just short of a monumental comeback as UCSD intercepted the ball from Hawaii on the final play of the game.

Daejah Phillips scored a season-high 24 points last night while Amy Atwell had a relatively quiet night, scoring just four points. UCSD snapped their six-game losing streak while the Rainbow Wahine lost for the first time in six games. The Wahine dropped to second in the BWC standings and will take on UC Irvine, who is in first place, on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
