Hawaii 48, Bakersfield 47

By Lance Tominaga, ESPN Honolulu Web Editor.

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team withstood a furious 10-0 fourth-quarter run by CSU Bakersfield to advance to Friday’s Big West Tournament semifinal round.

Daejah Phillips’ driving layup with 1:12 to play in regulation put the top-seeded Rainbow Wahine ahead, 48-47, and the No. 9-seed Roadrunners missed on three subsequent field goal attempts to end the game. Olivia Davies led UH with 11 points and four rebounds, while Phillips contributed nine points and five boards. Amy Atwell, the reigning Big West Player of the Year and the conference’s leading scorer, was held to just four points on 1-for-7 shooting. Atwell did lead Hawaii in rebounds, with six.

Bakersfield was led by Jayden Eggleston, who scored a game-high 18 points.

“We just persevered, honestly,” said Davies after the game. ”I think we were really nervous, and battling through all that nervous energy was a struggle, but we pulled it out.”

Hawaii will next play the winner of today’s game between No. 4 UC Riverside and No. 5 UC Santa Barbara. Friday’s semifinal game will air on ESPN Honolulu. The Rivals Pregame Show will start at 9:20 a.m. Tipoff is set for 10:00.
