Laynee Torres-Kahapea Wins Gatorade Player of the Year

Punahou star guard Laynee Torres-Kahapea has been recognized as the Hawaii high school girls basketball Gatorade player of the year.

The Buff n’ Blue ball club had an up and down season overall finishing 9-9 and 5-8 in ILH play, but Laynee Torres-Kahapea was one of the bright spots for them this season.

Torres-Kahapea led the Buff n’ Blue in scoring with 15.6 points per game and 17.5 points per game in ILH play. She was named ILH MVP by coaches and was a member of the Hawaii Star-Advertiser Fab 15.

To cap off her remarkable high school basketball career, Laynee will go onto play at the next level, signing with division one program Portland State for the 2023-2024 season.
