No. 2 Punahou defended its title, edging No. 1 Kamehameha 1-0 to claim a third straight state championship in the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Division I Girls Soccer final.
A crowd of 3,500 at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium watched as Maya Yoshimura’s 11th-minute penalty kick proved decisive. The Buffanblu, who finished runner-up to Kamehameha in the ILH, battled through four games in seven days to earn their 14th state title.
Punahou’s defense held strong, securing its eighth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Xeyana Salanoa made four crucial saves, including two in the final minutes, to deny Kamehameha an equalizer.
