With heavy hearts, we share the passing of longtime ESPN Honolulu broadcaster Bobby Curran. A pillar of Hawaii sports broadcasting, Bobby’s unmistakable voice, passion, and dedication to local athletics left an indelible mark on our community and the countless lives he touched.
For over three decades, Bobby called University of Hawaii football and men’s basketball games, bringing fans closer to the action with his insightful commentary and unwavering enthusiasm. His legacy extends beyond the microphone—he was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to many in the industry.
A New York native, Bobby’s broadcasting journey began at UH’s KTUH radio station. He went on to cover high school sports before becoming a sideline reporter and color analyst for UH football. His remarkable career included calling more than 400 football broadcasts across 32 seasons—the longest announcing streak in UH football history. His voice became synonymous with Hawaii sports, most notably through the beloved “Bobby Curran Show.”
In 2023, he was inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor, a testament to his enduring impact on the local sports landscape.
“Bobby Curran’s voice was a staple in Hawaii’s sports community for decades, and his passion for the University of Hawaii and its teams was unparalleled. His insightful commentary and knowledge of both local and national sports brought people together and had an impact far beyond the airwaves,” said Susan Eichor, CEO of aio. “For all of us at ESPN Honolulu and aio, though, Bobby was far more than a broadcaster; he was a dear friend, a tireless advocate for student-athletes, and an ambassador for all of Hawaii. Our prayers are with Jo, Max, Finn, and all of the Curran ohana as we celebrate Bobby’s amazing life and legacy.
Rest in love, Bobby. You will forever be a blessing to all of us and the countless fans that you inspired.”

“Bobby will be deeply missed. He will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in Hawaii radio broadcasting. So many fond memories of all the great University of Hawaii sports broadcasts he called… thank you, Bobby Curran. You will never be forgotten,” said Matt Apana, General Manager of ESPN Honolulu.
Our deepest condolences go out to Bobby’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. His voice may be silent, but his legacy will forever echo in the hearts of Hawaii’s sports community.
Rest in aloha and mahalo, Bobby Curran.

Bobby Curran's dedication to his craft will be one of the many things that I will remember.

His "care" – His care for the University of Hawaii, its players and coaches. You felt it in every broadcast.
He made you FEEL something every time you listened to a game on the radio.
Lost another legend, and friend. Please join me in sending prayers and condolences to his family.
