Campbell Blanks Mililani to Reach State Flag Football Final

Campbell’s defensive duo of Jaynalyn Sotelo and Shaleah Moore led the Sabers to a dominant 14-0 shutout over Mililani in the semifinals of the Hawaii Dental Service/HHSAA Girls Flag Football State Championships on Friday at John Kauinana Stadium.

In a clash of unseeded West teams, Campbell (10-2) advances to face Leilehua (10-2) for the inaugural state title Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Leilehua edged Punahou, 18-12, in the other semifinal.

Sotelo, a two-way standout, had three interceptions—including a 33-yard pick-six—and a 13-yard touchdown reception. Moore racked up four sacks, two pass deflections, and three quarterback hurries as the Sabers shut out a Mililani team that had beaten them in the OIA semifinals.

Campbell controlled the clock and tempo, holding possession for over 28 minutes behind quarterback Maya Gonsalves, who completed 20 of 32 passes. Gonsalves also threw for both touchdowns and led the team with five flag pulls.

Moore added six catches for 43 yards, while Sotelo had three receptions for 28 yards. The Sabers’ defense forced five punts and three interceptions, holding the Trojans to under 20 minutes of possession.
