Rainbow Warriors Stay Alive with 6-2 Win Over UCSB, Will Face No. 1 Seed UC Irvine

The University of Hawai‘i baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 6-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday in an elimination game at the inaugural Big West Tournament.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning, Lahaina native Ben Zeigler-Namoa crushed a three-run homer to give the Rainbow Warriors a 4-2 lead. Matthew Miura added a two-run shot in the seventh to extend the cushion.

Freshman Pitcher of the Year Cooper Walls got the start and allowed two runs over four innings. The bullpen took over from there, with Corey Ronan earning the win and closer Isaiah Magdaleno slamming the door shut with eight dominant outs and his eighth save of the season.

Zeigler-Namoa finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Miura and Elijah Ickes each added two hits.

With the win, Hawai‘i advances to face top-seeded UC Irvine on Thursday at 12 p.m. HST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Honolulu (92.7 FM / 1420 AM).
