HPU Stuns Boise State in Season-Opening Thriller

The Hawai‘i Pacific Sharks opened their 2025–26 season with a statement win on Monday night, shocking Division I Boise State 79–78 on the road. It marks one of the biggest victories in program history for the Division II squad.

Junior guard Joshua West led the charge with 23 points, including 16 in the first half as the Sharks held a narrow 38–37 lead at the break. HPU traded punches with the Broncos throughout the second half before sealing the one-point win — a signature moment for head coach Jesse Nakanishi and his team.

The Sharks, who captured an NAIA national championship in 1993 when known as the Sea Warriors, will return home for their season opener this Saturday against Nobel at The Shark Tank.
