Coming off its second bye week of the season, the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors were unable to extend their winning streak to four games, falling to San José State.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado turned in a strong performance despite the loss, completing 31 of 46 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Jackson Harris led Hawai‘i’s receiving corps with six catches for 134 yards and two scores.
Defensively, the Rainbow Warriors had few answers for the Spartans’ explosive passing attack. San José State (3-5, 1-2 Mountain West Conference) senior quarterback Walker Eget connected frequently with sophomore receiver Danny Scudero, who finished with seven receptions for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Eget ended the night 20-for-40 for 458 yards and two scores as the Spartans piled up 603 total yards of offense, with 458 through the air and 145 on the ground.
Hawai‘i (6-3, 3-2 MWC) struck first on its opening drive, capping a 75-yard march with a one-yard touchdown run by junior running back Cam Barfield with 6:48 remaining in the first quarter. That would be the Warriors’ only lead of the night.
Despite outscoring San José State 24–14 in the second half, Hawai‘i could not slow the Spartans’ offense enough to mount a full comeback.
The Rainbow Warriors return home to the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex on November 8 to face first-place San Diego State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Honolulu.
