What is up everybody! Welcome to The Shakas & Swings Show a new series that will bring you the latest news in Golf, tips and tricks for beginning golfers, and hilarious interviews with some of Hawaii’s most famous athletes and celebrities.

Hunter Hughes, a former UH Football Quarterback and current co-host of the Hawaii Football Now Podcast, is an avid golfer and has been playing competitively throughout high school and since graduating from UH in 2017. He was a semi-finalist in the 2018 Manoa Cup, the oldest continuous golf tournament in Hawaii.

“Golf is one of the most beautiful games in existence. You can play it forever, you can share it with those you love, and it’s a therapeutic metaphor for life that has endless lessons and benefits,” said Hunter.

This week on Shakas & Swings, Hunter recaps the 14th edition of the President’s Cup which was held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The highly entertaining team event finished with the American team beating the International team with a final score of 17.5-12.5.


This week on a hilarious episode of Shakas & Swings, former UH Football Defensive Back and current Stand-Up Comedian, Tumua Tuinei joins Hunter Hughes. Back when the boys were in school, they took a theater class together and this was actually when Tumua first tried out stand-up comedy.

As someone who helps golfers improve their game, Tanner talks with Hunter about a few things new golfers and even seasoned golfers can do to minimize their scores and have more fun on the courses.


Hunter Hughes records this episode while in Tulsa, Oklahoma as he and his family will be playing on a number of prestigious golf courses including The Patriot Golf Club, Oak Tree National, The Club at Forest Ridge, and Southern Hills Country Club. Hunter also does a rundown on the FedEx Cup and how the point system is used. Just on Sunday, Will Zalatoris a 25-year-old Californian beat out Sepp Straka on a dramatic three-hole playoff to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
