October 10th, 1987. Playing their ninth match over a nine-day span and in their second straight doubleheader, the Rainbow Wahine wrapped up play at the Bronco Classic in Pomona, California. Still in the sideout scoring era here, a Rainbow Wahine player had recorded six service aces in both a four-set match and in a five-set match, but it had never happened in a three-set match…until today. After a sweep over Portland State (15-2, 15-10, 15-9) earlier in the day, Mahina Eleneki tied the pre-rally scoring program record for service aces in a match, recording six in the straight sets victory over UC Riverside (15-4, 15-8, 15-3)…but Eleneki became the first Rainbow Wahine ever to accomplish this feat in a three-set match. She held that record all to herself until October of 1992 when Sarah Chase served up six aces in a three-set win against Cal State Fullerton.
