Rainbow Wahine Rewind: Oct. 30

By Tiff Wells.

October 30 – A date before Halloween that’s so good we just had to go with two different years!

In 1975, it was just the second season for Rainbow Wahine volleyball. Head coach Dave Shoji had the team in California to begin the season. A day earlier, UH won at UC Riverside 3-1 (15-17, 15-6, 15-13, 15-11) in the season opener. Looking to remain unbeaten on the young season in just Coach Shoji’s second-ever match as head coach, the Rainbow Wahine won at Santa Clara. Set scores were unavailable. Over the course of 4 days (10/29-11/1), UH played 10 matches, going 9-1 in the process.

In 1999, the Bows faced Fresno State as UH wrapped up a conference road trip. It was another perfect WAC road trip for Hawai`i as they swept the Bulldogs (15-3, 15-5, 15-10) in Fresno, to improve their conference record to 8-0 and the overall record to 19-1. The win in the Central Valley against Fresno State also was the 700th for Dave Shoji.
