November 20, 2008: Opening night of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. UH went 15-1 during the conference regular season, good enough to be the second seed in the tournament. But for the first…and only time in program history, Honolulu and the Stan Sheriff Center hosted the WAC Tournament. A volleyball fan’s heaven! Eight matches among nine teams over the span of four days. Playing in the Thursday night feature quarterfinal match, sixth-ranked Hawaii swept Boise State (25-15, 25-16, 25-17). Four Rainbow Wahine players had 10 or more kills: Kanani Danielson (12), Jamie Houston (12), Aneli Cubi-Otineru (10) and Amber Kaufman (10). Libero Tara Hittle led all players with 17 digs. UH led 13-5 in set one, eventually winning 25-15. Set two featured a tied score at 10 before a 10-1 UH run propelled the Bows to a 25-16 victory. Boise State led set three by scores of 8-0 and 10-1. Then UH awoke. The Rainbow Wahine closed out the set on a 24-7 run to win it, 25-17. UH later went on to win the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over third-seed Idaho in the semifinal and a 3-1 victory against top-seed New Mexico State in the championship.
