Elyse Umeda-Korth Appointed Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach at Punahou School

HONOLULU, Hawai‘i (July 10, 2023) – Punahou School announces the appointment of Elyse Umeda-Korth as the new Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach. With a strong background in athletics and coaching, Umeda-Korth brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role.

The Punahou Class of 2003 alumna previously served as Punahou’s Varsity Girls Basketball Assistant Coach. Her responsibilities included practice planning, opponent scouting, and assisting the head coach in managing the overall program. She also served as the Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach at Samford University in Birmingham, AL, where she oversaw guard breakdown, offense, and strength and conditioning programs.

She gained valuable experience working in Punahou’s Summer School program tutoring students. She also is owner and head trainer at CrossFit 808 and has multiple certifications in weight lighting, mobility, nutrition and more.

Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Princeton University. Umeda-Korth’s appointment comes as Punahou bids aloha and expresses deep gratitude to Gary Pacarro, an alumnus from the Class of 1970, who served as the Varsity Girls Basketball Head Coach and Boys Varsity II Basketball Head Coach for several years. His dedication and contributions will have a lasting impact onthe program.

With her extensive background in coaching, commitment to athlete development, and passion for basketball, Umeda-Korth is poised to lead the Punahou School Varsity Girls Basketball program through its next chapter. Punahou looks forward to continuing success under her guidance.
