In a non-league football game, the No. 8 ranked and defending DI HHSAA Football Champions, Konawaena Wildcats secured a 28-19 victory against Leilehua despite facing challenges, including six turnovers. The Wildcats, with a 3-1 record, displayed a dominant defense led by junior defensive lineman Elias Malapit, who recorded a season-high four sacks and seven tackles for loss. The defense as a whole accumulated seven sacks and held Leilehua to a mere 20 rushing yards on 35 carries.

Konawaena’s offensive performance was a mixed bag. Quarterback Keoki Alani, struggled early with an interception but later settled in and made great usage of his legs when he needed to scramble. Alani orchestrated an 89-yard drive, connecting with Aliimanu Tan for an 8-yard touchdown pass. Despite their turnovers, Konawaena managed to secure their third consecutive win.

Leilehua looks to bounce back against Aiea next Friday, September 8 while Konawaena looks to stack their momentum against Keaau next Saturday, September 9.
