In a thrilling non-league football matchup, Kahuku staged an impressive comeback to secure a 30-23 victory over reigning national champions, St. John Bosco. This triumph marked a remarkable turnaround for Kahuku, who had suffered a crushing 55-8 defeat against the nation’s top-ranked team, Mater Dei, just a week prior. The Red Raiders, now standing at 5-1, showcased their resilience by defeating the highly-regarded Braves, who entered the game as the third-ranked team in the nation. This win not only signaled Kahuku’s resurgence but also served as a significant upset in the world of high school football.
At halftime, Kahuku held a 22-9 lead, but St. John Bosco mounted a fierce comeback effort in the second half, led by Chauncey Sylvester’s pair of short touchdown runs. The Braves managed to pull ahead 23-22, only to be outdone by Kahuku’s determined final drive. Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa’s 18-yard touchdown run with just 23 seconds left on the clock secured the thrilling victory for the Red Raiders. This crucial play, coupled with a successful two-point conversion, propelled Kahuku to a 30-23 lead, ultimately sealing the game.
