Malu Garcia’s 19 kills and Zaria Queen’s 12 helped Moanalua secure a narrow victory over Kapolei in five sets during the OIA Division I semifinal match at McKinley’s Student Council Gymnasium. Despite not participating in the opening set, Garcia’s performance in the final set, including two aces during a 6-0 run, played a crucial role in Moanalua’s success. Coach Alan Cabanting’s decision to rest Garcia paid off, as she delivered four kills and two aces in the decisive fifth set. Queen’s consistent performance, with 12 kills and five blocks, was a significant contribution. Jerney Tang-Silva, Kaelyn Flores, Anya Gant, and Iana Benevides also made valuable contributions to the team’s success. The OIA DI Championship between Moanalua and Mililani is set for Wednesday, November 1st at 7pm at McKinley.
