Aliyah Bantolina scored a game-high 18 points and Taysia Molina-Schulte added 15 points to help the Sabers (2-0) hold off the Buff ‘n Blue (1-3).
Campbell led 13-7 after one period, 29-16 at halftime and 46-29 entering the fourth, but Punahou applied full-court pressure and heated up from 3-point range to close it to 48-43 on Keilani Stewart’s triple from the right wing with one minute remaining. But Molina-Schulte made one of two free throws with 28 seconds left and the Buff ‘n Blue could not convert at the other end.
The Sabers will play San Clemente (Calif.) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
