ʻIolani Blanks Maui, 35-0

ʻIolani rolled past visiting Maui High, 35-0, on Saturday afternoon at Eddie Hamada Track and Field. The Raiders improved to 2-0 behind a balanced attack and a dominant defensive showing.

Quarterback CJ Villanueva was nearly perfect, throwing three touchdown passes, while running back Ronin Fanelli rushed for 136 yards and two scores. ʻIolani finished with 387 total yards, spreading the damage evenly through the air and on the ground.

The defense set the tone, holding Maui to just 161 total yards and eight first downs. The Sabers never reached the red zone, went 0-for-7 on third downs, and turned the ball over twice. Maui’s lone highlight came from Micah Barut, who ran for 87 yards.

ʻIolani struck quickly on several possessions, capitalizing on turnovers with scoring drives. The Raiders scored four times in the first half to build a commanding lead and added another Fanelli touchdown run after the break to trigger the running clock.

Maui opens league play at Kekaulike on Friday, while ʻIolani heads to Aiea for a non-league matchup on Saturday.
