HONOLULU – ‘Iolani cruises past Kaimuki in season opener.

It was a one-sided affair in the season opener for both teams, as No. 10 ‘Iolani tops Kaimuki, 59-26.

‘Iolani quarterback CJ Villanueva got off to a great start in his sophomore year campaign, throwing for four touchdowns and 286 yards, while also accounting for one touchdown on the ground.

‘Iolani’s defense and special teams also came up huge in the season opener, blocking three punts and two extra points, while also causing one interception.

Kaimuki quarterback Iosefa Letuli did all he could to keep the Bulldogs in the game, accounting for two touchdowns and 255 yards through the air, while also rushing for 72 yards and a score.

But ‘Iolani was too much for Kaimuki, dominating in all three facets of the game and showing why they are legit contenders to compete for the HHSAA Division 1 State Football Championship.

‘Iolani will now look ahead to a tough matchup against Farrington next week Saturday, while Kaimuki will look to bounce back in week two, squaring off with Roosevelt next week Friday.
