Chang Named AFCA Regional Coach of the Year

University of Hawai‘i head coach Timmy Chang was selected as the AFCA Region 5 Coach of the Year after leading the Rainbow Warriors to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2019.

In his fourth season at the helm, Chang guided UH to its best start since 2018 and has the Warriors at 7-4 entering the regular-season finale, remaining in the Mountain West title race late into the year. He is one of five regional winners now up for AFCA National Coach of the Year, to be announced December 15.

Highlighted by a season-opening win over Stanford and a victory over conference leader San Diego State, Hawai‘i also earned road wins against Air Force and Colorado State. Under Chang’s play-calling, the Warriors became one of the nation’s top passing offenses, led by Micah Alejado, who tops the Mountain West in passing yards per game.
