Hawaiʻi Breaks Through With 29-19 Win Over New Mexico State
Hawaiʻi earned its first win of the season Saturday night, defeating New Mexico State 29-19 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors improved to 1-2 behind 346 passing yards from Micah Alejado, two rushing touchdowns from DeVon Rice and three defensive takeaways. UH jumped out to a 16-0 lead before New Mexico State rallied to tie the game at 19 early in the third quarter.
Hawaiʻi regained the lead on Sean Olvera-Harle’s 33-yard field goal, then added some separation in the fourth quarter. On fourth-and-4 from the NMSU 7-yard line, Tama Uiliata lined up at quarterback and found Frank Abreu for a touchdown to make it 29-19.
Uiliata finished with a career-high 10 catches for 107 yards, while Audric Harris added 105 receiving yards. Jamih Otis helped lead the defense with a fumble recovery and a late interception that sealed the win.
The Rainbow Warriors have a bye next week before traveling to face Wyoming on Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 9:00 a.m. HT.
