Honoka‘a Captures First-Ever Division II State Baseball Title
Honoka‘a made history Saturday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium, defeating Damien 3-0 to capture the program’s first-ever Division II state baseball championship in the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Baseball State Championships.
The Dragons struck early with two runs in the opening inning behind RBI efforts from Isaac DeRego and Chrys Coelho, then relied on dominant pitching from Josyah Napoleon-Umeda the rest of the way.
Napoleon-Umeda tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout, finishing the tournament with 10 scoreless innings across two appearances while earning Division II Most Outstanding Player honors. Damien threatened multiple times but could not break through as Honoka‘a stranded five Monarch runners.
Jayden Salazar and Rory Crabbe each collected two hits for the Dragons, while DeRego and Coelho added RBIs in the championship win. The victory capped a memorable run for Honoka‘a, which celebrated its first baseball state crown in school history.
