Rainbow Wahine Split First Big West Road Trip

By Kennedy Choo

In their first conference road trip of the season, the Rainbow Wahine bounced back with a solid win over Cal State Bakersfield, but couldn’t carry that momentum into their next match, getting swept by Cal State Northridge.

Hawai‘i took down the Roadrunners (8-6, 1-2 Big West Conference) in four sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17) behind a huge night from sophomore setter Adrianna Arquette, who recorded her second career triple-double with 14 kills, 28 assists, and 20 digs. She led the team in all three categories.

Sophomore setter Audrey Hollis made her first career start and delivered a double-double with 25 assists and 15 digs, while junior middle blocker Maddie Way had a career night, recording 13 kills with no errors, hitting a team-best .765.

But the Wahine (6-9, 2-2 BWC) couldn’t keep things rolling in Southern California. CSUN (9-6, 2-2 BWC) swept Hawai‘i  (25-21, 25-21, 25-12)  snapping an 11-year losing streak against the Wahine. The Matadors posted 13 blocks and hit .333 as a team, while UH struggled offensively, hitting just .126.

Senior outside hitter Tyla Reese Mane led the team with eight kills, and sophomore middle blocker Miliana Sylvester added eight more on a .389 hitting percentage.

Hawai‘i returns home this week to host Cal Poly (11-5, 2-2 BWC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara (11-5, 3-1 BWC) on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
