Week two of spring practice is underway in Mānoa as the University of Hawaiʻi football team continues its offseason grind.
Hawai‘i Stuns First-Place San Diego State with Dominant 38–6 Win
As the rain poured down throughout the game, junior nickelback Elijah Palmer lined up in his slot position. Already up 31-6 with 2:07 left in the third quarter, the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors had carved up the San Diego State defense and were shutting down the Aztec offense just as effectively.
San José State Air Attack Too Much for Hawai‘i in Road Defeat
Coming off its second bye week of the season, the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors were unable to extend their winning streak to four games, falling to San José State.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado turned in a strong performance despite the loss, completing 31 of 46 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Jackson Harris led Hawai‘i’s receiving corps with six catches for 134 yards and two scores.

Facing 4th & 1 at the Colorado State 35-yard line with just 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, sophomore running back Cam Barfield and the University of Hawai’i offense found themselves in a pressure-packed moment. Holding onto a narrow 24-19 lead, a successful conversion could ice the game. A stop, however, would give the Rams a golden opportunity to steal the win.
Barfield wasn’t interested in leaving it up to chance.
Taking the handoff, he broke through the line of scrimmage, shed a would-be tackler, and sprinted 35 yards to the end zone.
Old Friends, New Foes: Hawai‘i, Colorado State Ready for Mountain West Duel
The Rainbow Warriors are on the road again, this time in Fort Collins to face off against the Colorado State Rams and a familiar face.
While at the University of Nevada as a wide receivers coach, Hawai‘i Head Coach Timmy Chang worked under now-Colorado State Head Coach Jay Norvell. The two remain close, with mutual respect running deep.
Alejado Torches Aggies for 413 Yards in Statement Win
With 2:31 left in the fourth quarter, Utah State quarterback Bryson Barnes dropped back in the pocket, desperately looking for an open receiver. Barnes let go of a desperation pass over the middle to senior wide receiver Kahanu Davis, but it was intercepted by junior linebacker Jamih Otis, who blanketed Davis in coverage.
Hawai’i kneeled out the clock, and the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex erupted.
For the first time in 15 years, the Rainbow Warriors beat Utah State by a score of 44-26, and did it in style, bidding farewell to the Aggies as they head off to the Pac-12 Conference.

Coming off a bye week, the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors football team is preparing for Mountain West foe Utah State, a team Hawai‘i hasn’t beaten since 2010.
Head coach Timmy Chang said the week off was beneficial in every way: spiritually, mentally, and physically. Now, the Warriors are rested, recharged, and ready for what the Aggies bring to the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex looking to snap a 15-year drought.

For the first time since November 4, 2023, the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warrior football team has won an away game.
In a bounce-back performance, redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado and the Hawai’i offense lit up the scoreboard, racking up 535 total yards in a thrilling 44-35 shootout victory over the Air Force Falcons.

The Falcons, like other service academies, are known for their disciplined and difficult-to-defend triple-option offense, a run-heavy scheme that requires focus and preparation.
Missed Conversion Ends Hawai‘i’s Comeback in Final Fresno State Clash
With just 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter, redshirt freshman quarterback Micah Alejado lined up in the shotgun formation on third and two at the Fresno State 10-yard line. Despite throwing three interceptions, including a costly 59-yard pick-six earlier in the fourth, Alejado and the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors were mounting one final drive in a do-or-die moment.
Hawai’i Football Set to Host Fresno State in Final Chapter of Storied Rivalry
Off to its best start since 2019, the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warrior football team begins Mountain West play this Saturday against long-time rival Fresno State, closing out a three-game homestand.
But this meeting may mark the end of an era. With Fresno State (3-1) set to join the PAC-12 on July 1, 2026, this could be the final matchup between the two programs for the foreseeable future. Saturday’s showdown will be the 57th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Rainbow Warriors (3-1), a rivalry that began in 1938 with the inaugural Pineapple Bowl.
Barfield breaks through as Hawai’i dominates Portland State
With 13:09 left in the second quarter, junior running back Cam Barfield finally had his moment.
Lining up in the backfield, Barfield swung out on a checkdown route, where junior quarterback Luke Weaver found him in stride. Barfield does the rest, running 16 yards to the endzone. The Clarence T.C. Ching Sports Complex erupted as Barfield celebrated, scoring touchdown number one as a Rainbow Warrior.
Homecoming Clash: Rainbow Warriors Welcome Portland State to Mānoa
In the second game of a three-game homestand, the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors gear up to take on the Portland State Vikings at 6 p.m. this Saturday in the annual homecoming game at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Following a triumphant victory against Sam Houston State, Head Coach Timmy opened Tuesday’s practice with a fiery message: do not look over Portland State.

After a 40-6 thrashing in Tucson at the hands of the University of Arizona Wildcats, the University of Hawaii football team is looking to rebound in a three-game homestead at the Clarence T.C Ching Complex, starting with the Sam Houston State Bearkats.
