PAC-5 Shuts Out Baldwin to Reach First D-I Semifinal
Unseeded PAC-5 continued its strong postseason run with a 3-0 win over Baldwin on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA Division I Baseball State Championships at Hans L’Orange Park.
Zion Cornog tossed a four-hit complete-game shutout to lead the Wolfpack, who advanced to the Division I state semifinals for the first time in program history. PAC-5 earned its second win in less than 24 hours after a late-night victory over Kaiser on Wednesday.
PAC-5 scored twice in the opening inning behind an RBI triple from Austen Ahu and a sacrifice fly by Colten Amai Nakagawa before adding an insurance run in the fifth. Cornog struck out four, walked none and stranded eight Baldwin runners to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Wolfpack will face top-seeded Waiakea in Friday’s semifinal at Les Murakami Stadium.
