Kapa‘a Gets Redemption, Rolls Past Kamehameha-Hawai‘i 3-0 for D2 State Title
Kapaʻa made sure this rematch had a different ending.
After last year’s title game loss, the second-seeded Warriors returned to Waipio and defeated top-seeded Kamehameha-Hawaiʻi 3-0 in the Hele/HHSAA Division II Boys Soccer State Championship, claiming their fourth state crown and first since 2019. The win capped an unbeaten 13-0-2 season.
With the field still slick from weather that postponed the match earlier in the week, both teams struggled to find rhythm. KHS attempted more shots, but Kapaʻa’s defense stood tall, handing the high-scoring squad its first shutout of the season.
Omar Perez opened the scoring in the 19th minute off a long ball from Bear Miller. Hunter Kerry doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, and Miller added the final goal in the 65th off an assist from Perez. Perez was later named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
The championship also marked a storybook sendoff for longtime head coach Kevin Cram, who closes his tenure with a fourth state title before stepping away from the program.
