‘Iolani Defends Crown with 5-2 Win Over Punahou

‘Iolani faced its first deficit of the season Wednesday night — and still walked away with another state title.

The Raiders rallied from an early goal to defeat Punahou 5-2 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, successfully defending their Hele/HHSAA Division I crown. Chase Yamashita scored twice, while Devin Lee, Soichi Amakata and Brody Awaya also found the back of the net as ‘Iolani pulled away with a dominant second half.

After leveling the match late in the first half, the Raiders erupted for four goals after the break to secure their second straight championship, third in four years and 12th overall.

‘Iolani closed the year undefeated at 13-0, outscoring opponents 54-8 and cementing its place atop Division I once again.
