Pearl City Claims OIA D2 Crown in Five-Set Battle with Kapolei

Pearl City battled past Kapolei in a dramatic five-set match Thursday night to capture the OIA Division II boys volleyball championship, winning 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 11-25, 19-17.

Josiah Talamoa led the Chargers with 27 kills, while Reven Otsuka added 13 as Pearl City secured its first league title since 2023.

The deciding set featured multiple momentum swings, with Pearl City building a 13-8 lead before Kapolei rallied to take a 16-15 advantage. The Chargers answered behind key late kills from Talamoa and Otsuka to close out the win.

Kapolei was powered by a match-high 29 kills from Noheakaimana Bogard and 12 kills from Matahi Makepa. Austin Sou finished with 54 assists for the Hurricanes.

Marley Ngirmidol recorded 41 assists for Pearl City in the championship victory.

Both teams earned spots in the upcoming HHSAA Division II Boys Volleyball Championships.
