Wai‘anae Completes Comeback to Capture OIA Division I Title

Wai‘anae delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the season Tuesday night.

Trailing defending champion Moanalua 25-12 late in the fourth quarter, the Seariders rallied to force overtime before Chevylen-Brooke Beebe-Lee hauled in the game-winning touchdown to lift Wai‘anae to a 31-25 win in the OIA Division I girls flag football championship game.

Kawena-Lynn Kaluna threw for 308 yards and five touchdowns for the unbeaten Seariders, who secured the league’s seeded berth into the HHSAA State Championships.

Moanalua appeared in control after Jodie Keo’s third touchdown reception gave Na Menehune a 13-point lead in the second half, but Wai‘anae answered with back-to-back scoring drives to tie the game at 25 and eventually complete the comeback in overtime.

Cadence Lau led a strong defensive effort with six sacks as Wai‘anae closed the game with key stops to secure the program’s OIA crown.
